ENVIRONMENTAL STORY

Recycle and recover used Big Bags

Big Bags, whatever their sector of use, are for single use. Aware of the importance of this issue, like its customers, the company has chosen to invest in research and development in order to find a solution to recycle Big Bags that cannot go through the recycling process. Traditional recovery and thus divert them from landfills.

Thus, since 2020, research and tests have been carried out in order to set up a process for recovering used Big Bags from Tremac customers and packaging them in order to turn it into plastic particles that can be used to remake Big Bags or other products.

Testimonials

In collaboration with the Center for Technology Transfer in Industrial Ecology (CTTEI) and the Research Institute in Thetford Mines (COALIA), Tremac has started a pilot project for recycling Big Bag type bags and other polypropylene (PP) products to extend the life cycle of these products and divert them from landfill. In addition, recycling PP will minimize the single use of plastics and reduce their harmful environmental impact. Thus, this project falls into the category of circular economy projects and offers communities solutions in line with the 3R concept, namely reduce, reuse, recycle and recover.

COALIA is thrilled with its collaboration in the innovative project initiated by TREMAC and focusing on the enhancement of single-use industrial bags.

To be able to use our expertise in plastics processing in such a project, to prove the concept of the recyclability of super bags, to demonstrate the properties advantages of a material usually buried or energetically recovered, to determine the ideal recycling process as well as to find the suppliers for the necessary industrial equipment is extremely motivating for us: all this perfectly aligned with our values, including respect for the environment.

Congratulations to TREMAC for this forward-looking initiative which brought together several key players in sustainable development and the circular economy, including the CTTEI and the Ecoleader Fund.
